Performance testing showed that there are heavy operations at work during minimal price calculations.
It seems like although there is a number of cached methods product with full SKU sets are retrieved in order to calculate prices.

There is no evidence that caching of those products and skus actually improve things elsewhere but there evidence that unnecessary retrieval of attributes product and skus is evident.
